The biggest opening day, the biggest Saturday, the biggest Sunday, the biggest Monday the biggest four day opening and the biggest Friday to Sunday opening weekend of all time are just five of the new benchmarks it has set.

Box Office: Records tumble again!

Well, the most hyped film of the century, Star Wars: The Force Awakens was finally released on Thursday and amazingly it has lived up to all expectations. The biggest opening day, the biggest Saturday, the biggest Sunday, the biggest four day opening and the biggest Friday to Sunday opening weekend of all time are just five of the new benchmarks it has set. In just four days it has grossed £34m, which includes £9.7m on Thursday. Its Friday to Sunday total of £24.3m eclipses Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ record of £23.8m to become the biggest of all time. Saturday saw it gross £8.7m, and remarkably, Sunday was almost as big, delivering £8.6m. It’s already the ninth biggest film of 2015. Read more

The unprecedented demand seen for the release of the film is leading to speculation that The Force Awakens has the potential to be THE biggest film of all time in the UK, challenging Skyfall for the mantle of the highest-ever grossing movie.

Box Office: The Hunger Games makes it four in a row

The Weekend Round-up 

The top five is exactly the same as it was last weekend and there were no new entries in the top 15, as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 became the first film since Les Misérables in 2013 to hold on to the top spot for four consecutive weekends. A drop of 43% to £1.3m, is a much shallower drop than the 52% Part 1 fell on its fourth weekend last year and, although it’s still tracking behind Part 1, it’s catching up. It now sits on £25.5m, and provided it can hold on to some screens with Star Wars imminent, it should add a bit more over the Christmas period. Read more
