The Revenant leads 2016 Oscar field with 12 nominations

Nominations for the 88th Annual Academy Awards were announced today (14 January 2016), with Alejandro González Iñárritu’s epic western, The Revenant, leading the way with 12 nominations, including for best picture and director. George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, another best picture nominee, tallied 10 nominations. The Martian racked up seven nominations, including for best actor (Matt Damon) and best picture.

Creed - Rocky hits London Underground

Celebrating this week’s release of Creed (15 January) and Sylvester Stallone’s Best Supporting Actor win at the 2016 Golden Globes, Warner Bros. has been promoting its new Rocky sequel with a live orchestra stunt at London's Chancery Lane Underground station.

Box Office: Star Wars sets a new benchmark

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now the highest grossing film in UK history. On Friday, it surpassed Skyfall and after adding £6m across the weekend, it now sits on, a quite frankly ridiculous, £108.4m. It’s still holding up well from week to week and £120m is quite possible.

Street party planned outside Brixton Ritzy to celebrate the life of David Bowie

A street party outside one of London's most famous cinemas, Brixton Ritzy, took place on Monday evening (11 January) to celebrate the life of David Bowie, who died last weekend at the age of 69, after an 18 month battle with cancer. Bowie, who was born in Brixton was a legendary musician and performer and also starred in a number of iconic films, including Labyrinth and The Man Who Fell To Earth.

Nominations announced for EE Rising Star Award

The nominations for the 2016 EE Rising Star Award were announced today, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens star, John Boyega and Fifty Shades Of Grey star, Dakota Johnson two of the actors vying for the award. The award is the only publicly voted award at the BAFTAs and the winner will be announced at the awards on Sunday, 14 February.

Box Office: Star Wars closes in on Skyfall

Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues to deliver, adding a huge £10.3m on its third weekend. That means it is now on £97.4m and has overtaken both SPECTRE and Avatar to become the second biggest film of all time in the UK. It is set to overtake Skyfall and become the biggest by this time next week.
