The Weekend Round-up
The Revenant held on to the top spot for the third successive weekend, adding another £2.3m for a new cume of £16.1m. It’s still tracking ahead of The Wolf Of Wall Street, which added £2.4m on its third weekend for a cume of £15m. If Leonardo DiCaprio wins the BAFTA and Oscar as expected, The Revenant should be around for a good while longer too. Read more

The Revenant had a terrific second weekend, falling just 24% (once previews are removed) to £3.9m, for a new total of £12m. It might not end up the big winner at the BAFTAs and Oscars next month, but it’s the clear winner commercially of the 2016 awards season. The Wolf Of Wall Street fell 22% on its second weekend and was on £10.9m, so The Revenant is on track to beat that film’s final total of £22.7m.

The big Oscar front-runner, The Revenant, finally ended Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ four week run at the top of the UK box office, as it opened with an fantastic £5.2m, which included £146k from previews. That’s a terrific result, beating the £4.7m that Leonardo DiCaprio’s last film, The Wolf Of Wall Street, opened with in January 2014. That film topped out at £22.7m, which will be the target for The Revenant. Read more
