Jake Gyllenhaal film helps deliver 1m impacts for Ford Focus

Source Code starring Jake Gyllenhaal has, in its opening weekend, helped an cinema ad for Ford Focus gain one million impacts, according to unofficial figures from Digital Cinema Media.

The cinema ad was created by Oglivy with media planned and bought by Mindshare. It focuses on the technology of the car such as its automatic brake facility. Read more

Hop bounds to top of UK Box Office

Russell Brand's latest big screen family adventure Hop has topped the UK box office on its debut weekend of release. The animated Easter-themed flick, co-starring James Marsden and Kaley Cuoco, raked in £1.39m to secure first place. With the school Easter holidays just around the corner, nobody would be terribly surprised if the animated "Easter Bunny" movie stays in the top 10 for a while yet.

Meanwhile Jake Gyllenhaal's science fiction thriller Source Code also opened this weekend to second place grossing £1.3m, it ranks just behind recent sci-fi thrillers Limitless (£2.1m) and The Adjustment Bureau (£1.4m). Read more

Bradley Knocks Johnny Off Box Office No.1

Grossing £2.1m in its opening weekend (including previews), Limitless starring Bradley Cooper jumped straight into the top spot over the weekend. It performed well against other recent thrillers Unknown and The Adjustment Bureau, beating even Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' £1.8m debut.

Ranking second over the weekend was 3D family animation A Turtle's Tale, grossing an impressive £1.1m, beating Ponyo's £172K opening. This is the fourth best opening of any Optimum Releasing distributed movie, and their biggest family film opening ever. Read more

Red Bull to screen sporting film shorts for cinema push

Red Bull, the drinks brand, is to launch a series of short films showcasing freesports action, as part of four months of big screen and social media activity to target younger cinemagoers via Cineworld.

The four-minute shorts, Red Bull 'Edge of Your Seat' with action from freesports athletes such as Danny MacAskill, Felix Baumgartner, Robbie Maddison and Rachel Atherton, will be shown before films at 400-plus Cineworld screens from Friday (April 1). Read more

M&M's inks million-pound movie deal to push flagship store

M&M's has signed a seven-figure deal to sponsor 'From The Red Carpet' (FTRC), the entertainment programme shown in cinemas, ahead of the opening of its flagship store in Leicester Square.

The 60-second show, broadcast before the main feature, launched last year and reports on worldwide film releases, with interviews with stars at premieres and on-set, will be sponsored across the UK from 1 April. Read more

February’s industry impacts totalled a massive 17.2m, which was +15.8% up against February 2010. This is the best February box office result in nine years, and the second best result of all time, behind 2002's 19m.

Battle: Los Angeles Commands UK No. 1

Battle: Los Angeles has won the UK box office battle debuting in first place over the weekend.

The Aaron Eckhart-led sci-fi blockbuster opened with £1.8m to narrowly edge past Johnny Depp's Rango and secure the chart top spot. The action thriller is the second best opening for star Aaron Eckhart, trailing only The Dark Knight. Read more

Rango lassos UK Box Office top spot

Johnny Depp dominates the big screen again in his new family flick Rango. Opening to a respectable £1.6m on its debut weekend, the animated Western went straight to the top of the UK box office, holding off stiff competition from The Adjustment Bureau and Unknown.

The Adjustment Bureau takes second place, more than doubling the box office takings for Matt Damon's last thriller Hereafter, grossing a solid £1.4m in its opening weekend. Euro-thriller Unknown followed closely in third place grossing £1.35m, whilst The King's Speech rises again to fifth place on the back of its recent Academy Awards success. Read more
