There is a natural synergy between the escapism experienced in both video games and film at the cinema . That probably explains the influx of  video game to film conversions over the last few years.

Bridesmaids Screening a Huge Success!

On the 20th of June DCM held a screening for the highly anticipated new film ‘Bridesmaids’. The film, which has been dubbed as the female equivalent to ‘The Hangover’, was attended by a gaggle of excited women eager to enjoy the screening.

Produced by Judd Apatow, (Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin) Bridesmaids stars Kristen Wiig, cast as the lead Annie, a maid of honour whose life unravels as she leads her best friend, Lillian (Maya Rudolph), and a group of colourful bridesmaids (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) on a wild ride down the road to matrimony. The film is fast paced, crude and side splittingly funny, with horrifying but laugh out loud moments throughout. Read more

Final Harry Potter draws big-league brands to cinema

Brands including Audi, Anchor and LG are investing in significant cinema activity around the final Harry Potter film, which opens next month.

Advertising slots in the first weekend of the much anticipated final in the franchise are already booked up and spots have been snapped up faster than for all the previous films as brands clamour to engage with the film’s huge fanbase. Read more

The wolf pack are back with a bang

The Hangover Part II opened to an amazing weekend gross of £8.4m, the second best opening of 2011 to date, just short of Pirates 4 £8.6m debut last weekend. It smashed the opening weekend of the first Hangover which took in £2.7m excluding previews in 48 fewer locations. Not only is it the biggest three-day opening for a 15-rated comedy of all time, it’s the second biggest opening ever for a 15-rated film.

Pirates dropped to second place with a strong box office to date at £19.7m, with this week's school half-term holiday still to come. Also released over the weekend was the sequel to Diary of a Wimpy Kid, with a well rounded three day gross of £1.1m. Read more

Pirates Take Over The Box Office Seas

The summer has officially begun with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides arriving on UK shores last Wednesday. Its five-day gross is an impressive £11.6m. Excluding previews (£8.6m), Pirates has had the biggest 3-day opening weekend of 2011 to date.

Pirates has pushed the weekend top 15 up to £15.2m, more than doubling the same weekend last year when Prince of Persia opened. Other new openers over the weekend included Jason Statham's Blitz, with an opening gross of £266K. Limited releases also came from Win Win starring Paul Giamatti (£155K), the cricket documentary Fire in Babylon (107K) and Spanish horror Julia's Eyes (£49K). Read more

April's Industry Impacts hit 11.2m

April’s industry impacts totalled 11.2m,  a strong result to date and is the fourth best Jan-Apr result of all time. Year to date 2011's cinema impacts now stand at 54.7m.

With the kids not off until a little later this year, combined with the Royal Wedding Bank Holiday and the hot weather, the industry faced some unusual challenges this April, but still delivered some good results. Read more

Thor: Remains Undefeated

For the third weekend in a row Thor remained on top of the weekend chart, the superhero film managed to fight off competition on both sides of the Atlantic to remain triumphant.

Fast & Furious 5 maintained its second place position with new opener Attack the Block reaching third place grossing a solid £837K in its debut weekend (excluding previews), beating recent 15-rated Brit flicks Anuvahood (£537K) and Four Lions (£609K). Read more

3D Dramatically Increases Memory Retention Rates in Advertising and in Learning Says Leading 3D Producer

Advertisers looking to increase memory retention among audiences should seriously investigate 3D, says a leading producer of stereoscopic 3D commercials, James Stewart. In a presentation today delivered at the Ontario Centres for Excellence (OCE) Discovery 2011 conference, Geneva Film Co. founder and director James Stewart shared startling statistics.

He showed the use of 3D in advertising yields eye-popping returns in memory retention with audiences exhibiting 92% total recall of an ad, with 68% of that number showing a higher likelihood of following through with a purchase of the product advertised - a significant increase over the same commercial in 2D. Quoting studies from multiple independent sources - including ESPN, Xpand and Texas Instruments, the data shows an average increase in viewer retention of 15%. Read more
