Thor Thunders into UK Box Office at No. 1

Business over the weekend was strong with the top 15 films generating a combined £12.8m, up +22% on Easter's bank holiday weekend.

Marvel's hammer-wielding comic book character Thor jumped straight in at the top spot beating off stiff competition to become king of the box office. The latest instalment from the Marvel franchise preformed well opening to a solid £5.4m in its debut weekend. Audiences were also treated to a 2 minute clip from the eagerly awaited The Avengers, in which Thor stars alongside other iconic Marvel characters. Read more

Action vs Animation: Fast and furious take the lead

The fifth instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise powered its way to poll position this weekend earning No.1 at the UK Box Office. Showing no signs of slowing down the 5th instalment grossed £5.3m in its debut weekend alone!

The popular franchise has now grossed a combined total of £39.2m to date, and there are already reports that the Fast & Furious team is revving up for the next instalment in the franchise. Read more

X-Factor branding agency develop new ident for Digital Cinema Media

Jump, the BAFTA-winning design company known for its branding work for the X-Factor and Who Wants to be a Millionaire, has created a new ident for cinema sales house, Digital Cinema Media which launches across the UK in all its cinemas on Friday evening.

The new ident which will replace the current ident across all 2D screens, will herald the start and close of the ad reel in cinemas. Marking a move away from the traditional ad reel, the new sequence uses a cube made from points of light which creates light formations to mesmerise the viewer. Read more

Scream Shocked To Box Office Success

Topping the charts this weekend was Scream 4, generating £2.1m. Despite the disappointing results in the US, it seemed to fare more positively in the UK, tracking just shy of Scream 3's £2.4m opening back in 2000. Despite the good weather cinema admissions remain steady with the added boost from the Easter school holidays.

Family favourite Rio held well in its second weekend, dropping only -16% with an income to date of £5.5m. Newcomers to the screen, Your Highness and Red Riding Hood entered the chart at 3rd & 4th to round up the top 4. Read more

Blu and co. shake their tail feathers to Box Office No.1

Fox’s latest family flick Rio flew straight into the UK top spot over the weekend grossing a total of £1.5m. The good weather did impact slightly on performance in the Box Office but with the weather forecast to cool down for the rest of the week, and with the kids off for the Easter holidays we are predicting an uplift next week.

Meanwhile sci- fi thriller Source Code is still fighting off stiff competition to maintain second place rank, closely followed by Limitless and last week’s chart topper Hop at number four. Read more
