King's Speech takes £4M

The King's Speech grossed an amazing £4.4m in its second weekend, up +25% on its opening weekend. The royal drama’s gross to date now stands at £10.8m in the UK, and shows no signs of slowing down.

The Brit-film has now surpassed P.S. I Love You as the highest grossing film distributed by Momentum Pictures. According to IndieLondon.co.uk the incredible performance prompted Xavier Marchand, managing director of [UK distributor] Momentum Pictures, to comment:  “We are blown away by the second weekend’s box office for The King’s Speech. Feedback from the cinemas suggests repeat viewing and a broadening of the audiences towards students and teens. We’re still getting really positive reactions from cinemas and fans across the UK. Digital Cinema Media Named As Top Media Brand

The Media industry took a bashing in the recession, but the revival has begun, writes Nicola Clark.

“Cinema sales house Digital Cinema Media (DCM) has made the most of a stellar year for the medium. The company has done a great job in demonstrating its benefits to advertisers, not least by building on the advent of 3D cinema technology, which has created a genuinely new platform. Skyline takes 1.2M as Due Date Stays Top

Low-budget sci-fi flick Skyline grossed a respectable £1.21m across 381 screens last weekend. The film about an alien invasion, directed by visual effects whizzes Colin and Greg Srause, stars Six Feet Under star Eric Balfour.

Due Date, starring Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis held onto the top spot at the UK Box Office last weekend, taking £1.9m. Since release date two weeks ago, the film has grossed an impressive £5.8m. Read more

Downey Jr's Due Date Takes £2.3M

Due Date, starring Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis topped the Box Office last weekend, grossing £2.3m. The comedy, directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover), follows the comic attempts made by Peter Highman (Robert Downey Jr) to travel to LA to see the birth of his firstborn. Hangover star Zach Galifianakis plays the stranger who offers him a lift cross-country, which turns into the most terrifying drive of Highman's life.

Last weekend saw Box Office gross increase in the US by an impressive 30% compared to the same weekend last year with the release of Megamind, Due Date and For Colored Girls. Dreamworks animation Megamind, voiced by Will Ferrell and Brad Pitt, took the top spot grossing $46m. Read more

Saw 3D Cuts Through £3.6M

Halloween weekend attracted thousands to the cinema to watch the last in one of the most successful horror franchises in history - Saw. Saw 3D (or Saw VII for those that saw it in 2D) offered fans the chance to discover the answers to all the questions posed by previous Saw films, only this time in eye-popping 3D.

Saw 3D hit the top spot, grossing an impressive £3.6m in its opening weekend. This is the best opening result of any of the Saw films. Read more

Paranormal Activity 2 Tops Box Office

Suburban terror gripped the Box Office over the weekend as Paranormal Activity 2 went straight to No. 1. The sequel, about a young couple coping with a potentially evil spirit in their home, made £3.8 m in the UK in its debut weekend. This beats the first instalment of the low-budget horror which grossed £3.6m last year.

In the US, the film also dominated the weekend business, knocking Jackass 3D from the top spot and grossing a massive $41.5m. This is the highest grossing opening weekend of all time for a supernatural horror movie, beating The Grudge's $39.1m in 2004. Read more
