
April’s industry impacts totalled 11.2m, a strong result to date and is the
fourth best Jan-Apr result of all time. Year to date 2011's cinema impacts now stand at 54.7m.
With the kids not off until a little later this year, combined with the Royal Wedding Bank Holiday and the hot weather, the industry faced some unusual challenges this April, but still delivered some good results.
In pole position was
Fast & Furious 5, grossing £10.5m in its first nine days and driving on into May to become the top grossing movie in the Fast franchise.
Rio 3D and
Hop took the majority of holiday admissions for the kids but tracked behind
Tangled 3D and
Gnomeo and Juliet 3D as the top family films of 2011 to date.
Thor's mighty previews and opening secured him a position in the
April top 10 generating £4.4m in its first few days. The Norse god is currently tracking as the 7th biggest grossing film of 2011 to date and counting.
