Latest figures from the Cinema Advertising Association show that current cinema admissions for 2009 are the strongest in over seven years. Admissions over the first half of 2009 currently stand at 83,459,465, representing the most successful initial six month period since 2002.
In comparison, 2002 holds the current first 6 month cinema admissions record at 87,712,069, which was assisted by movie releases such as Spider-Man, Monsters Inc, and Star Wars Episode Two: Attack of the Clones. Read more
Today, Digital Cinema Media (DCM) has announced that Virgin Media has renewed its contract for the second year running, in a year long seven-figure deal. The partnership will help to promote Virgin Media Shorts - a short film competition for Britain’s undiscovered film talent - in independent cinemas around the UK.
Starting in September, Virgin Media will showcase the 12 short-listed films to cinema goers at over 200 cinema screens across the UK. The Grand Prize winner of the competition will be given nationwide exposure through the screenings, as well as receiving up to £30,000 worth of funding towards their next short film, working with the UK Film Council and Virgin Media. May Cinema admissions have seen a marked 24% increase on the same period last year, boosted by blockbuster features such as the latest in the cult series Star Trek and Twentieth Century Fox hit X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
According to the latest figures by the Cinema Advertising Association, the films have proved so popular that audience figures totalled 15,775,945 - making May 2009 admissions the highest on record since 1969. Read more
The COI has done a deal with the UK’s largest cinema advertiser Digital Cinema Media (DCM) to launch the Knife Crime Superhero Film Season, part of the ‘It doesn’t have to happen’ Home Office anti-knife crime campaign aimed at tackling the serious national issue.
The film season is offering kids aged between 10 and 16 the chance to watch one of three blockbuster films for free at one of 18 Cineworld sites across the UK over the Easter Holidays. Read more
Latest Cinema Advertising Association figures show cinema admissions are going from strength-to-strength, with 13.8million cinemagoers heading to the screens in April alone. This marks a year-on-year increase of 40.8%, and ranks as the strongest April for cinema admissions since 2004.
Overall, cinema admissions for 2009 stand at 55.2m to date, a 14.2 % increase on the same period in 2008. Monsters vs Aliens, which was released on 520 screens and in 3D on over a quarter of these, was the top film in cinemas in April generating over £17.3m to date has generated £17.3m in April alone, nearly one and a half times the gross for the second most successful film of the month. That spot was taken by Fast and Furious, the fourth in the extreme racing franchise, which took £12.4m. 17 Again, starring Zac Efron, stood as the third highest-grossing film of the month, taking £9.6m. Woolworths, the recently re-launched online retailer has booked a cinema advertising campaign through Digital Cinema Media (DCM), the market leader in UK cinema advertising.
Targeting Woolworth’s key family audience, the campaign started on 11th July and running for six months will see the online store sponsoring Cineworld’s ‘Movies for Juniors’, the exhibitors Saturday morning kids club. Read more
Bluepod Media has been reappointed as Digital Cinema Media’s (DCM) Bluetooth supplier and will immediately set about installing the technology into all ODEON cinemas over the next two months. Going forward DCM plan to roll this out to other cinema chains in the second half of the year, taking advantage of the fact that 65% of cinemagoers aged 15-24 say that they would download something for free to their mobile (FAME 2009 research).

Honda is to launch a cinema advertising campaign in support of its new environmentally friendly Honda Insight.
The cinema ad, created by Wieden and Kennedy will appear on approximately 2,500 cinema screens across the country through an exclusive deal with cinema advertiser DCM. The £1.3m deal will build awareness of the new Insight model amongst its target upmarket audience, but also promote the car as an affordable and environmentally friendly mode of transport. Read more

The Eyebrow campaign has been a phenomenal success.
