The CEA releases new trailer to promote accessible cinema

A new cinema trailer promoting the availability of accessible screenings is due to hit UK cinemas later this month.

The UK cinema sector is a world leader in the provision of subtitled and audio described screenings for those with a hearing or visual impairment. Following the conversion of all sites to digital projection technology, all are capable of showing subtitled screenings. And over half can also provide audio description. Read more

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK has partnered with Digital Cinema Media (DCM) to target audiences in UK cinemas for the first time, using DCM’s new geo-location ability in the biggest localised end-frame campaign to date.

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK is using cinema for the first time to reach a large, highly engaged audience to introduce consumers to the new Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) model whilst casting a halo over the entire range. The campaign aims to deliver nationwide coverage, encouraging consumers to explore the Outlander PHEV at their local dealership just minutes away from most DCM cinema estate. Read more

Cravendale fuels family togetherness with sponsorship of Cineworld’s Movies For Juniors

Arla Food’s iconic milk brand Cravendale has launched its sponsorship of Cineworld’s Movies For Juniors, the UK’s biggest kids cinema club, which offers discounted tickets to families. The sponsorship is part of a wider campaign designed to encourage parents and children to spend quality time together, underlying Cravendale’s passion for bringing families closer.

The Cineworld sponsorship, developed and created by Carat and Digital Cinema Media (DCM) is part of Cravendale’s “Summer Fun For All The Family” campaign, which aims to involve parents and children in an experience that goes beyond the cinema screen, strengthening the brand’s connection with this key audience. The Weekend Round-up

Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie topped the box office for the second weekend running with £2.2m. The BBC comedy has now grossed £9.3m, which is over three times the total gross of both Keith Lemon: The Film and The Harry Hill Movie, neither of which cracked the £3m mark. There was also no change in second place as The Fault In Our Stars fell 40% to £962k and a very healthy cume of £8.6m. Read more

2014 - The best is yet to come: Tom Linay looks at the Magnificent 7

It's July and we're now closer to Christmas than the start of the year.  The nights are drawing in so what better way to spend an evening than in the comfort of the cinema? It's been a terrific year so far for film, kicking off with arguably the highest quality awards season for years. The BAFTA and Oscar Best Picture winner 12 Years a Slave grossed over £20m at the box office, which is a remarkable achievement for a film of such uncompromising power. The Wolf of Wall Street may not have scooped any major awards but it became the highest grossing 18 certificate film of all time with £22.7m. They were ably supported by American Hustle which became director, David O Russell's most successful film in the UK.

The big February film was an instant classic, The Lego Movie was an explosion of wit and creativity and was an utter delight. It's the biggest film of the year to date and it may be a few more months before its overtaken. Awards season may be well gone by March but awards worthy films continued and The Grand Budapest Hotel took everyone by surprise by becoming director, Wes Anderson's biggest film of all time and charming audiences to the tune of £10.9m. DCM Close Up is delighted to be supporting the Into Film Festival this November, along with many UK cinemas. There is still time for more cinema sites to support this great cause that takes film and cinema out into the heartland of the community through its various youth programmes. Brian Harries Awarded BEM for Services to Cinema

Brian Harries, the manager and projectionist at the Brynamman Cinema in the Brecon Beacons has been awarded the B.E.M British Empire Medal for 50 years’ service at the cinema and to the community. Brian and his wife Gillian had the honour of meeting the Queen and Prince Philip at a Buckingham Palace Garden Party and spoke to Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall.

The Prince asked Brian what part of Wales he and Gillian come from.  “I told him not too far from where his property is just across the mountain,” Brian told DCM Close Up. “He was very amused. Princess Alexandra asked if we speak Welsh to which I replied all the time at home. She told us that her parents were Greek and she regretted not being able to speak the language. So I've now got my medal!” Read more

D&AD reveals its New Blood class of ’14

At an awards ceremony held in East London last Thursday (3 July), 32 Yellow Pencils and one White Pencil were awarded to students from the UK, USA, Canada, Sweden, Germany, Russia, Singapore and South Africa at the annual D&AD New Blood Awards. These awards aim to reach young creatives from as far and wide as possible to offer inspiration, learning and genuine opportunities on the way into the industry. They also give full time students, recent graduates and under 24s around the world the chance to take on a variety of industry standard briefs set by global brands. This year, Digital Cinema Media set the audio-visual brief with the challenge to ‘show the emotion of film’ through the creation of a 30 second ident.

Now in its 90th year, the CTBF continues to support people who work behind the scenes in the film, cinema and commercial television industries. The organisation exists to support creatives, production professionals, marketers and administration staff from script to screen, who find themselves in times of need for one reason or another.
