Safety measures

The main priority remains keeping audiences as safe as possible. All cinemas must pass a risk assessment before reopening and there will be new safety procedures in place.

Measures include a focus on online bookings and contactless payments, increased levels of cleaning, sanitising stations, staggered film times to avoid large gatherings in foyers, distanced seating in-screen and extra training and PPE for staff.

With safety concerns at the top of exhibitors' minds, the UK Cinema Association has created two informercials aimed at reassuring the public that the cinema will continue to be a safe place to enjoy a night (or day) out. The two infomercials set out the key measures exhibitors are taking and will be used alongside a host of other digital assets on cinema and industry partner websites and social media channels, as well as on the big screen itself as sites re-open.

What will be showing?

Christopher Nolan’s Tenet (26 August) will be the first big blockbuster attracting audiences back to the big screen.

Additionally, the Film Distributors’ Association (FDA) has announced a list of 450 titles being made available to cinemas to complement new releases. This includes all-time classics, franchise favourites, indie gems, family fun and event cinema across genres such as comedy, documentary, musical, horror, romance and sci-fi. All audiences and every age group is catered for.
