Box Office: War Craft ups its game to the top

War Craft: The Beginning opened on Bank Holiday Monday (31 June) and held out to claim top spot into the weekend with £3.6m, which included just over £2m from 467 previews. The film muscled out the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as the sequel to 2014’s previous release, Out of the Shadows, took £3.5m, including £2m from previews on the last weekend before Euro 2016 kicks off. Brynamman Public Hall celebrates 90 years

The Brynamman Public Hall Cinema celebrates 90 years this week. The venue originally opened in 1926 as Miner’s Welfare Hall and the opening of the cinema followed a few years later in the 1930s, showing silent films before the ‘talkies’ came along.

Box Office: X-Men are first in class

X-Men: Apocalypse opened in the top spot with £7.4m, which included £2m from Wednesday and Thursday previews. That £5.3m Friday to Sunday total is the fifth highest of the year to date, behind The Jungle Book and just ahead of The Revenant. While that’s some way down on the £9.1m (including £1.6m from previews) that X-Men: Days Of Future Past opened with in 2014, with half term starting next week, it should have a strong second week.
