Box Office: Captain America completes hat-trick

Captain America: Civil War has made it three consecutive weekends in top spot after adding £2.8m, bringing its total to a terrific £32.2m. It now stands a good chance of overtaking Iron Man 3’s final total of £37m to become the biggest solo Marvel film ever made. Read more

The first real sign of sunshine for the year over the weekend meant cinema took a slight hit but Captain America: Civil War comfortably held on to the top spot. The epic superhero showdown fell a chunky 67% to £4.8m, which brought its 10-day total to £27.4m. That’s on a par with Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’s second weekend drop and at the same stage of its run, Dawn Of Justice was on £27.8m. The cloudier weather forecast for the rest of the week has already seen titles start to bounce back. Read more

The Digital Cinema Media Awards: the categories

There are six award categories open for entry for The Digital Cinema Media Awards, plus one overall Grand Prix for the most effective and forward-thinking campaign of the last year, which is chosen by the judging panel solely from the winners of the five main entry categories.

UK box office a record-breaking £1.2 billion in 2015, according to BFI report

The BFI released the first chapters from their 2016 statistical yearbook this week and they paint a rosy picture of the UK box office. Box office in the UK for 2015 was a record-breaking £1.2 billion, up 17% from 2014 and admissions were 171.9m, up 9% on 2014. Every month in 2015, with the exception of August, was up on the equivalent month in 2014.
