As it did at the BAFTAs Nomadland won the Best Picture prize at the Oscars on Sunday night. Chloe Zhao became only the second woman in history to win the Best Director Oscar for Nomadland, which is in cinemas as soon as they can open on 17 May. Fascinatingly, Zhao's next film is Marvel's Eternals, due in cinemas in November.

The acting prizes went to Frances McDormand for her performance in Nomadland, her third Best Actress Oscar, and in accepting the award she told film-lovers to return to cinemas soon. “Please watch our movie on the largest screen possible, and one day very, very soon, take everyone you know into a theatre, shoulder to shoulder in that dark space and watch every film that’s represented here tonight.” Anthony Hopkins became the oldest acting winner in history for his performance in The Father, which also won the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for Florian Zeller and Christopher Hampton's script. It's in cinemas on 11 June.

Yuh-Jung Youn won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance in Minari, which is also in cinemas on 17 May, while Daniel Kaluuya picked up the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance as Fred Hampton in Judas And The Black Messiah.

On a night when no film won more than three awards, several films picked up Oscars, including Promising Young Woman (Best Original Screenplay), Soul (Best Animated Film, Best Score), Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (Best Make Up and Hairstyling, Best Costume Design), and Mank (Best Cinematography, Best Production Design).

Two more films that you can see in cinemas soon won Oscars - Sound Of Metal (Best Sound, Best Film Editing), which is in cinemas on 17 May, and Another Round (Best International Feature Film), which is in cinemas on 2 July. Excitingly Tenet won Best Visual Effects, with the award going to former DCMer Adam Reynolds' partner, David Lee.

If you haven't seen some of the major winners, Nomadland, Minari, and Sound Of Metal will all be in cinemas as soon as they can open on 17 May. Contact your DCM rep for any advertising opportunities
