The first DCM Film Club of the year was a big one and saw us team up with Everyman Cinemas to celebrate the newly-formed partnership with the boutique chain.

Held at Screen on the Green in Islington the night saw a red carpet and Hollywood-style cocktail reception welcome guests in for a special screening of Damien Chazelle’s La La Land, and the night was a resounding success.

And now we’ve seen the romantic musical in all its colourful, jazzed up glory, an insight into the background of getting it made wouldn’t go amiss. Cue Creative Review with a great piece on how Chazelle got it through the pipeline and into cinemas worldwide.

The piece tells how he conceived the idea for the film while studying at Harvard in the US and worked with friend and roommate, Justin Hurwitz, who took care of the impressive songs and score.

Also how Chazelle was intent on casting actors, rather than singers, dancers and musicians to play the parts of his characters, which made for some intense training and improvisation on set.

The production value was also an impressive feat, with many continues shots making the performances even more impressive in the movie.
