DCM's Head of Exhibition, Steve Davis, a self-confessed F1 nut, meets some of his heroes at the UK première of Ron Howard's film, Rush.

Leicester Square was alive on Monday night. From the moment Jenson Button and Sergio Perez screamed into the square in their F1 cars, you knew this was going to be an amazing night.

Edith Bowman welcomed the stars of the film onto the red carpet, as well as Chris Hemsworth who caused quite a stir among the throngs of fans. It was also a who’s who of F1. As well as Jenson and Sergio, attendees included Mark Webber, Martin Brundle, Bernie Ecclestone, Ron Dennis, Gerhard Berger, Ross Brawn, Jackie Stewart, David Coulthard, Adrian Newey, Christian Horner, Jonny Herbert… and the man himself, Nikki Lauda.

They were all here to see if Ron Howard had managed to recreate the thrill and energy of F1 on the big screen. He has.

Rush is a visual masterpiece. Whether you’re an F1 fan or not, I defy you not to be moved by this film. Rush tells the on and off track rivalry of Nikki Lauda and James Hunt, against the back drop of the glamour and sex of the golden age of F1.  I had heard the on track action was amazing, and was equally impressed by the balance of off track story. Rush really does make you appreciate the spectacle of F1, showing just how on the edge these guys live, literally risking everything for their sport. Rush is a great story of triumph over adversity, on so many levels.

Hemsworth really shows his range playing the cocky posh cad to perfection, and I’m sure Daniel Brühl will be in line for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination, at the very least, for his portrayal of Nikki Lauda - one of the unsung heroes of F1.

I was very lucky to attend the premiere in the presence of the F1 legends mentioned and also, the Hunt family. This was one of the greatest evenings of my life.
