Box Office Round-up

Toy Story 5 takes the top spot this week at the UK box office, with £15.3m across 702 locations. Already succeeding what both Obsession and Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu has grossed to date, it’s likely this new instalment of the franchise will be the strongest film of the summer. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie currently holds the spot as the second biggest film of the year (behind Michael), and grossed £15m on it’s opening weekend with a total run of £38m, so it’s likely that Toy Story 5 will exceed this.

Disclosure Day sees it’s second week in 2nd place, with £1.7m, which brings its total to £9m, a strong delivery for a Steven Spielberg film since Ready Player One in 2018, which released with £4m in March 2018.

Obsession continues its reign on its 6th week of release, dropping to the third spot at the UK box office, adding £924k, and that brings its total to £15.3m. Considering its original forecast was significantly lower, Obsession is a really strong case study for the power of cinema in creating cultural relevance.

Scary Movie takes the 4th spot, adding another £556k in its third weekend. This now brings its total to £8.4m, where it sits comfortably above Scream 7.

Backrooms rounds out the top 5, with £445k in its 4th weekend, taking its total to £11.7m. This places the film within the top 20 of the year, and if it weren’t for Obsession, would probably hold the title as the biggest horror of the year.

Next Weekend

Supergirl - When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Supergirl reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion for an interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.

Jackass: Best And Last - Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O and the rest of the gang return for more outrageous and hilarious stunts.

The Buzz

Gatto is Pixar’s upcoming project about a street-smart black cat (voiced by Mark Ruffalo) who becomes indebted to the local feline mob boss in Italy.  Set to release on 5 March 2027, this film is ideally timed before the Easter holidays, so will likely have a longer theatrical run, especially as it’s forecasted to bring in a strong family audience, indexing at 189 and projected to deliver 5 TVRs against a HP+CH audience. With an admission forecast of 1.4m industry, Gatto is currently the third strongest animated title released next year, behind Ice Age Boiling Point and Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
