Box Office Round-up
Weapons took the top spot on its opening weekend, grossing a total of £2.8m including £253,533 from 497 previews from Thursday. Zach Cregger’s new horror is being received really well from audiences, holding a Rotten Tomatoes score of 95% with 237 reviews and a Letterboxd rating of 3.9/5. Cregger’s last film Barbarian (2022) grossed a total of £1.1m, so it's brilliant that Weapons has already exceeded this in its opening weekend. Horror titles this year have seen significant success at the UK box office, with the likes of Nosferatu (£13m), 28 Years Later (£15.4m), Final Destination: Bloodlines (£11.6m) and Bring Her Back (£1.6m), its evident that this genre is becoming more and more commercially appealing, and audience’s appetites are only growing.
Freakier Friday also opened this weekend with £1.7m across 656 locations. In 2003, Freaky Friday took home £1.2m in it’s opening weekend, so its really positive seeing the sequel exceed its predecessor 12 years later. The original film totaled at £6.6m, and looking at the positive reception from audiences, its likely we will reach and exceed that. The film currently ranks 7th in comedies of 2025, behind the likes of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, The Naked Gun and Marching Powder, but we’re likely to see it jump up the rank within the next week or so.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps drops down to the third spot this week with £1.3m, a -55% drop, bringing its total to £19m. This makes it already more successful than the last Marvel title Thunderbolts*, which finished on £16.2m, so Fantastic Four now takes its place as 9th most successful film of 2025, closely behind F1 The Movie.
In its second weekend, The Naked Gun takes the fourth spot, adding another £1.1m which is the smallest drop of the week by 39%, taking its total to £4.4m. Similarly to Freakier Friday, the comedy genre is making a comeback and seeing some success at the UK box office. Currently, The Naked Gun is the 11th most successful comedy of the last 3 years, behind the likes of Mean Girls (2024) and Barbie (2023), but it's likely at the end of its run to exceed the likes of Asteroid City (2023) and Jackass Forever (2022).
The Bad Guys 2 rounds out the top 5 this week, with another £812k, bringing its total to £7.3m.
Outside of the top 5, Jurassic World: Rebirth drops by 48%, adding £663k, bringing its total up to £33.4m and securing the title as the fourth biggest film of 2025 for now, having overtaken Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
drops 48% but adding £650k, taking its total to £26m, only £300k behind Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which Superman is on track to overtake in the next couple of days.
F1 The Movie drops by 42% adding £281k taking its total to £21.4m, South Asian release Saiyaara added £244k on its fourth weekend, which takes its total to £2.6m, and new release Stans opened with £352k, closing the chart as the 10th spot.
