Spider-Man: Brand New Day added £6.1m on its third weekend, which is down 49% from last weekend. That takes its total after just 19 days in cinemas to a ridiculous £78.7m to make it the 12th biggest film of all-time in the UK & Ireland. A potential £100m total is still on, a total only two films have reached in the past (Skyfall and Star Wars: The Force Awakens). In terms of previous Tom Holland Spider-Man films, Homecoming finished on £30.8m, Far From Home finished on £37.4m and No Way Home finished on £97.3m. A remarkable box office progression.

The Odyssey delivered a terrific fifth weekend, adding £3.7m, which is down just 29% from last weekend. That takes its total after 31 days in cinemas to a HUGE £69.1m and it is now the 19th biggest film of all-time in the UK & Ireland. It would have been comfortably the biggest film of the year in 2024 and 2025 and there’s a chance it overtakes Top Gun: Maverick, the biggest film of 2022, which finished with £83.9m.

The End Of Oak Street opened in third with £2.1m, which includes £78k from previews. This time last year, Weapons opened with £2.6m and had terrific legs to get to £11.9m, so hopefully The End Of Oak Street will display similar staying power.

One of the hottest new pop acts, Katseye, had a documentary / concert film, KATSEYE: WILD HEARTS, in cinemas on Wednesday and Saturday and it grossed an impressive £725k.

Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie rounded out the top five, adding £695k for a new total of £3.2m. The previous Paw Patrol movie, Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie, finished on £8.2m, which is the target for this new film.

Outside of the top five, the Anthony Bourdain biopic, Tony, opened in eighth with £402k, which includes £110k from previews. This is expected to expand to further screens from next weekend.

The Buzz

Wicker stars Olivia Colman as an ostracised fisherwoman who commissions the local basket-maker to weave her a husband, but when her wicker creation proves unexpectedly extraordinary, his presence ignites jealousy and upheaval that threatens their quiet village. The first trailer was released online a couple of weeks ago and it has quickly become one of the most talked-about, and meme-able films in recent memory. The US Ikea Instagram page did a post entitled ‘Husband Material’ featuring their wicker products, that has since been liked 111k times. Alton Towers have got in on the act too, with a post about one of their rides that resembles a wicker head. It looks like attracting a very similar audience to Wuthering Heights earlier in the year when it hits cinemas on 30 October. Here’s the first trailer:
