Advertising Week Europe ‘Kicks’ Off at BAFTA

Advertising Week Europe 2014 is clipping along at a blistering pace in London this week, with seminars, workshops and evening events every day until Thursday.

As a proud sponsor of the festival, Digital Cinema Media (DCM) has not only attended some amazing sessions but has also hosted a special edition of the popular DCM Tuesdays film club at BAFTA, showing a preview screening of The Raid 2. DCM also is hosting a workshop, 'Inspired by Film', in association with D&AD, while Simon Rees, CEO, DCM, will participate in a panel session for WIRED: Evolution or Revolution Part 1.

The DCM Tuesdays' preview screening event featured a Q&A from Tom Linay, Head of Film, DCM with the film's director, Gareth Evans and stars Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian, who staged a live demonstration of Pencak Silat, the martial art featured in the movie, to rapturous applause from the assembled audience.

Other events throughout the week that DCM will particpate in include the Inspired by Film workshop, hosted in partnership with D&AD, taking place on Thursday 3 April at 12pm in the NewsWorks Workshop A.

Simon Rees, CEO, DCM will also be taking part in the eminent WIRED: Evolution or Revolution Part I, Thursday 3 April at 2:45pm.

The DCM Popcorn Bike was also spotted in the courtyard at BAFTA, giving away delicious Joe&Seph's Popcorn. The bike will be there all week for peckish Adweek Attendees.

DCM'ers also attended events from the likes of Google, Fast Company, Spotify and Fetch.

At the Google ‘A Better World, Faster’ session, Yonca Brunini, VP Marketing, Google, showcased the work Google does with African nations through the company’s ‘Connected Africa’ programme. Brunini said “Knowledge is a fundamental human right.”

The Fast Company Disruptors session featured a panel, which consisted of Claudine Collins Managing Director, Mediacom, Mark Howe Managing Director, Agency Sales, North & Central Europe, Google, Dan Wright Director, EU Advertising, Amazon Media Group and was chaired by Bob Safian Editor, Fast Company.

Mark Howe commented that: “To stay ahead of fast company disruptors is a full time job for agencies,” highlighting the furious pace of change in media and technology sectors.

Dan Wright of Amazon Media Group echoed this sentiment, stating: “As a customer obsessed company we can never do enough or do it fast enough.”

Idris Elba talked about his passion for music and described an upcoming project fusing Music and Film in the ‘Spotify in conversation with Idris Elba’ session, which only had standing room left as the actor took the stage with Chris Maples VP Europe, Spotify.

Fetch hosted a forward looking session entitled ‘The Mobile C-Suite’, which consisted of a panel of Mobile sector luminaries, including, Peter Dille CMO, Tapjoy, Trevor Healy CEO, Amobee, David Sear CEO, Weve and Abhay Singhal Co-Founder & MD, EMEA, InMobi. The session was chaired by James Connelly CEO, Fetch.

Peter Dille of Tapjoy stated: “Every medium in history has advanced advertising, we forgot this with mobile.” Abhay Singhal, InMobi added: “We are no longer talking about the device, we are talking about mobility.”

One of the most profound comments of the session came from Trevor Healy of Amobee, who said: “The tablet is as important as the printing press, touch computing is changing everything.”
