Box Office Round-up

Zootropolis 2 held on to the top spot, adding £2.8m, which is down 35% from last weekend. That takes its total to a punchy £15.5m and it is now the biggest animated film of 2025, having overtaken Dog Man (£13.9m) and The Bad Guys 2 (£14.6m). With the entirety of the Christmas holidays ahead, and no major family release until February (apart from Spongebob), it is heading to £30m.

Wicked: For Good came in second, adding £1.9m which is down 43% from last weekend, a much healthier hold than last weekend, when it fell 58%. That takes its total to £40.7m and it’s the third biggest film of the year, and closing in on Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy in second (£46.4m).

After an impressive opening last weekend, Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 took a tumble this weekend, falling 69% to £1m. That takes its total after 10 days in cinemas to £5.3m. It’s already overtaken the current total of Blumhouse’s other recent horror sequel The Black Phone 2, which is up to £3.7m.

Dhurandhar is the latest South Asian film to crack the top five. It added £594k this weekend, which is up 94% (!) from last weekend. That takes its total to £1.2m and it’s already the third highest grossing South Asian release of the year, behind just March’s L2: Empuraan (£1.4m) and July’s Saiyaara (£3.2m)

New entry Fackham Hall rounded out the top five, opening with £407k. In terms of British comedies this year, The Ballad Of Wallis Island opened with £142k back in May but had terrific legs, getting up to £2.5m. Hopefully Fackham Hall can show similar longevity.

Outside of the top 10, seasonal horror Silent Night, Deadly Night opened in eighth with £183k. Home Alone cracked the top 10, banking £181k, which was enough for 10th.

Next Weekend

Avatar: Fire And Ash is the third film in James Cameron’s sci-fi series. The first two are two of the biggest films of all-time in the UK & Ireland and first and third in the list of biggest films of all-time worldwide. Jake and Neytiri's family grapples with grief after Neteyam's death, encountering a new, aggressive Na'vi tribe, the Ash People, who are led by the fiery Varang, as the conflict on Pandora escalates and a new moral focus emerges.

The Spongebob Movie: Search For Squarepants is a new film featuring the popular animated character. SpongeBob journeys to the ocean's depths to face the Flying Dutchman's ghost, encountering challenges and uncovering marine mysteries. It’s in cinemas from Saturday.

The Housemaid is an adaptation of Freida McFadden’s best-selling page-turner. Sydney Sweeney stars as a struggling woman who is happy to start over as a housemaid for an affluent, elite couple (Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar). It’s in cinemas from Monday.

The Buzz

Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow is the first film featuring Milly Alcock’s incarnation of the character that was introduced in Superman this summer. Alcock plays Kara Zor-El, who celebrates her 23rd birthday by travelling across the galaxy with her dog Krypto. Along the way, she meets the young Ruthye Marye Knoll and encounters a tragedy that leads her on a "murderous quest for revenge". The supporting cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley and Jason Momoa. Superman reignited interest in DC Comics’ films and this is likely to continue it when it hits cinemas on 26 June. It’s set to be one of the best films for 16-34 adults next summer.
