Sheffield’s Showroom Workstation has been announced as the Film Hub North ‘Hub Lead Organisation’ in the BFI’s (British Film Institute) ambitious Film Audience Network to boost audience choice and to increase and broaden audiences for specialised and British independent film across the UK.
The independent cinema will be focusing its scope on partnerships with local providers in Cumbria, Yorkshire, County Durham, Northumberland and Tyne & Wear, as the ‘cultural leader’ for the region. Working in collaboration with other members of the BFI Film Audience Network, the Film Hub North will work to open up the world of specialised, independent film to a wider audience. “This is an exciting development for us," says Ian Wild, Showroom Workstation Chief Executive. "We’re looking forward to broadening our scope and working with partner’s right across the North. This is great news for audiences in the region. All those film fans and potential film fans out there will find a world of film opening up to them.” Read more
Harvey Nichols’ anti-Christmas campaign was awarded a Grand Prix in the prestigious Film and Titanium categories last Saturday night, marking a highly successful Cannes for UK agencies. The ad campaign, ‘Sorry I Spent It on Myself’, was developed by adam&eveDDB London, also responsible for the John Lewis Christmas campaigns.
Talking to The Guardian, Chief Executive of adam&eveDDB James Murphy, said: “This year has seen a resurgence of UK creativity in Cannes and we are really proud to be leading the charge.” Read more

The top four films of last weekend remained in exactly the same spots this weekend with a lack of any major new entries. 22 Jump Street topped the box office for the second consecutive weekend, adding £2.3m for a cume of £9.8m. Before next weekend it will have overtaken 21 Jump Street’s final total of £10.1m. Read more
Digital Cinema Media has teamed up with Vue magazine to create the first ever interactive issue, enabled with cinime, the cinema companion mobile app. The June/July print magazine is now available in Vue cinemas nationwide and cinime users can use the app’s inbuilt scanner to activate bonus content, such as movie trailers when they scan selected features and film ads, as well as the front cover. After watching the trailer, cinime users can add the film’s release date to their phones’ calendars and book tickets via Vue’s mobile site, when available. Readers also have a chance to win a £50 cinema voucher via the app.
The bi-monthly title, produced by Publicis Blueprint, features a calendar of film releases and reviews plus exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes information. It has been shortlisted for a Marketing Week Engage Award and owing to popular demand, as film fans plan their cinema trips, Vue increased its circulation by 20 per cent in March to 250,000. The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, the world’s largest gathering of advertising professionals, is underway. The great and the good of the European cinema industry are gathered in Barcelona this week for CineEurope 2014 to celebrate excellence, share expertise, network with partners and for a sneak-peak at highlights of the upcoming film slate.
CineEurope is the official annual Convention of the International Union of Cinema (UNIC) and the premier get-together of the cinema exhibition community in Europe. The UK’s Chairman of the Cinema Exhibitors’ Association (CEA), Phil Clapp addressed the industry in his role as President of UNIC as part of the opening ceremony, in a programme of events covering hot topics such as industry innovation, technology and digital delivery, event cinema and exclusive distributor film screenings.
