Announcing the winner of the 2016 Digital Cinema Media Fantasy Film League Oscars special

The winners of the 88th Academy Awards were announced on Sunday 28 February and, after another competitive awards season, Leonardo DiCaprio finally walked away with an Oscar, winning Best Actor, one of three awards in total for The Revenant. The results are also in for Digital Cinema Media’s (DCM) 2016 Fantasy Film League (FFL) Oscars edition. Over 530 industry film buffs entered but only one scored a perfect 10 out of 10 to win the DCM FFL title and an exclusive red carpet experience.

Box Office: Deadpool sets his sights on Iron Man

It’s a bona fide sensation and Deadpool is making a play to be the biggest superhero film outside of The Avengers and The Dark Knight films. After adding £5.7m on its second weekend, it is now up to a terrific £25.9m, and at some point this week will overtake X-Men: Days OF Future Past’s final total of £27.3m.  Read more

Box Office: Deadpool has the X-factor

Last Valentine’s it was Fifty Shades Of Grey dominating the box office and this year, it’s the turn of Deadpool. The Ryan Reynolds starring superhero tale opened with a spectacular £13.7m, which included £3.8m in previews. The character of Deadpool previously appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and that film also opened on a Wednesday and only grossed £6.7m it its first five days. Deadpool’s Friday to Sunday total of £10m is also the comfortably the biggest opening weekend for any X-Men film, easily besting Days Of Future Past’s £7.6m in 2014. Read more
