The Weekend Round-up
Doctor Strange opened in the number one spot last weekend, and this weekend it had a great hold, falling just 37% to £3.4m (once previews are removed). For comparison, Thor: The Dark World, the last Marvel film to be released in October, fell 47% on its second weekend. Read more

The nominations for the 2016 British Independent Film Awards (The BIFAs) were announced yesterday, with Ken Loach’s I, Daniel Blake scoring the most, with seven. Andrea Arnold’s American Honey, Babak Anvari’s Under The Shadow and Peter Middleton and James Spinney’s Notes On Blindness received six nominations each. Doctor Strange is the latest Marvel behemoth and kicked off its run with £9.3m. After opening on Tuesday, it added £3.8m from Tuesday to Thursday, but its Friday to Sunday total of £5.5m is the biggest for an original, non-sequel Marvel title, eclipsing Guardians of the Galaxy, which opened with £5m in 2014.
