Ant-Man opened in the top spot with £4m, the eighth highest opening of the year. Minions fell to second but another £2.7m takes it to a huge £32.3m. With the school holidays starting for most of the country this week, it will inevitably see an uplift during the week too. Read more

The Regent Cinema in Redcar was host to a very special event on Sunday afternoon. Four months ago a young gentleman approached the cinema as he wanted to propose to his girlfriend in one of their screens in the form of a fake movie trailer.

Minions stayed in the top spot for the third successive weekend, adding £4.2m for a huge cume of £27.6m. It’s now the biggest animated film of 2015 to date and is now tracking ahead of Despicable Me 2 at the same point. Read more

London Indian Film Festival heads to Birmingham

Now in its sixth year, The Bagri Foundation London Indian Film Festival will for the first time be expanding to serve audiences in Birmingham. The Festival includes a selection of special screenings at the mac birmingham and Cineworld Broad Street and will run in the city from 20 – 26 July.

Deadline extended for Digital Cinema Media Awards

The deadline for the inaugural Digital Cinema Media Awards has been extended to Friday 17 July. The awards scheme, run in association with Campaign and Media Week, will celebrate and reward the best advertising work showcased in cinema by the media industry over the last year.

BFI launches Britain On Film archive

The BFI (British Film Institute) has launched ‘Britain on Film’, an archive-based initiative through which thousands of unseen films have been digitised and will be made available for free to the public on the BFI Player platform.

Battle of Britain pilots share their war time experiences at Reel Cinema Bridgnorth

Last weekend Reel Cinema Bridgnorth held a special screening of the 1969 film Battle of Britain. The unique commemorative event for the 75th anniversary of the battle was attended by two of the 28 surviving Spitfire pilots from the historic battle. Squadron Leader Tony Pickering, who flew hurricanes and later spitfires, and Flying Officer Ken Wilkinson, who flew spitfires under the legendary Douglas Bader, were invited as guest speakers for the evening to help raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund.
