Disney’s Zootropolis (also known as Zootopia) has opened in the US with a record-setting $75m. This is Disney Animation’s biggest opening of all time and the ninth largest animated opening ever, smashing previous title-holder Frozen’s $67.4m opening weekend in 2013. Frozen went on to make $1.28bn at the global box office.

The great news is that there’s still time to book your Easter copy into this film in the UK, with premium positions, including the Silver and Content Spots, also still available. For all the stats and facts around Zootropolis, download DCM’s film slide or contact your DCM rep.

This bodes enormously well for the star-studded movie, which centers around a city populated entirely by animals, and a rookie rabbit cop (Ginnifer Goodwin) who teams up with a con artist fox (Jason Bateman) to uncover a conspiracy.

In all, so far it’s made a massive $232.5 million (£164 million) worldwide. It has also been extremely well-received by critics and is getting some incredible reviews around the world. It has a super-rare 99% 'fresh rating’ on reviews aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes and the Critics’ Consensus states that “the brilliantly well-rounded Zootopia offers a thoughtful, inclusive message that's as rich and timely as its sumptuously state-of-the-art animation -- all while remaining fast and funny enough to keep younger viewers entertained.”

The family audience is crucial to cinema, and this year there’s the biggest family slate in years. Pixar’s Finding Dory is likely to be the most popular animation, and Disney will also be expecting big things from their spectacular looking live-action The Jungle Book. However, Steven Spielberg’s The BFG will be wowing young and old alike, and in what would have been Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday year, interest in the title will be huge.

In a time where it’s becoming increasingly challenging to reach the whole family together in one place, the cinema provides an environment where parents and children happily make the trip to experience and engage in the same content together.
