This Thursday (17 March), Zeffirellis cinema will be holding a special screening of the new BBC series: ‘The ‘A’ Word’.

A red carpet affair, the exclusive invite-only screening of the programme will be shown at the cinema in Ambleside ahead of the six-part series going on air later this month. The series was written by Peter Bowker (Blackpool, Occupation), is directed by Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty), and is about the Scott family whose son is diagnosed with autism.

It was filmed in a range of locations in the Lake District, not far from where Zeffirellis is located in, and has a support cast made up of a number of Cumbrians.

The series stars former Dr Who Christopher Eccleston, already no stranger to the county through his starring role in hit ITV series Safe House, shot in the same area. The Cumbrians signed up to take part were recruited by Carlisle-based Lakeside Castings, whose boss, Phil McKay, is looking forward to being among the guests at this week’s special screening.
