Entries are now open for The Screen Awards, which are back for another year to celebrate the very best of marketing, distribution and exhibition in the film industry.

Celebrating much more than box office results, The Screen Awards acknowledge the wide array of studios, companies, teams and individuals that contribute to the success of the British film industry.

This year, there are again two ‘Cinema of the year’ categories, awarded to individual sites which have shown innovation and excellence. The categories are as follows:

  • Cinema of the year – companies with 24 screens or fewer – recent winners have included the Glasgow Film Theatre and the Market Hall Cinema Brynmawr; and
  • Cinema of the year – companies with 25 screens or more – recent winners have included the Odeon Dorchester and Cineworld O2, Greenwich.

The Awards, which will culminate in a black tie event to be held at The Brewery, in Central London on Thursday 20 October, are a rare opportunity to celebrate the diversity of the cinema industry.

Digital Cinema Media (DCM) is encouraging all of its Exhibitors to consider entering their cinema/ one of their cinemas, for the above categories where appropriate.

Last year, the Glasgow Film Theatre was crowned cinema of the year (24 screens or under) – with a highly commended for London’s Genesis Cinema.

The UKCA’s news story here, gives a further idea of the range of shortlisted sites in each category last year.

The closing date for entries is Friday 15 July.
