Latest Twilight Eclipses New Moon

It was a record-breaking weekend for the UK Box Office as The Twilight Saga: Eclipse opened to the delight of thousands of adoring fans. Bringing the total UK Box Office for the weekend up to £21.8m, this was a 47 % increase on the same weekend last year.

The latest instalment of the Twilight saga rocketed to the number one spot in the charts bringing in a massive £13.8m including previews. Eclipse's total is ahead of its predecessor, New Moon, which earned £11.7 million in ticket sales last year on its first weekend on release. Read more

Toy Story storms Box Office

Toy Story 3 in 3D had a spectacular opening week last week, bringing in £21.2m in the UK. Opening on Monday the 19, the hit sequel stormed straight to the top spot in the Box Office charts, beating the openings of both Toy Story 1 and Toy Story 2.

Released in 3D as well as 2D for the first time, the third in this hit franchise is predicted to be the big hit of 2010. It is already the year's biggest opening weekend at the UK Box Office, toppling the previous number one, Alice in Wonderland on its Friday to Sunday figures alone. Read more

A whopping twelve 3D films still to come in 2010

TWELVE new 3D films are set to hit screens in the UK this year between September and December, a massive increase from 2009 which saw fifteen 3D films released for the whole year.

The appetite for 3D films isn't showing any signs of abating as recent figures indicate that 3D films achieve an average of 4x the box office revenue of the same film in 2D*. Read more

Shrek Forever After Takes £8.9M

Dreamworks Animations' latest offering Shrek Forever After, grossed £8.9m in its opening weekend (including previews). This is the second best opening weekend for a release in 2010.

The hit animation's fourth instalment sees Shrek suffer a mid-life crisis that leads him to strike a bargain which goes horribly wrong. Shrek, released for the first time in 3D, opened three weeks before the release of another much-loved animation, Toy Story 3 in 3D which is expected to do very well in the UK Box Office. Read more

Twi-Hard For UK Box Office Success

The latest film in the Twilight series opens in the UK on Friday, preview figures from last Saturday and Sunday alone totalled £6.3M. In the US and Canada, the film opened last Wednesday and immediately broke the record set by its predecessor taking $30m (£20.1m) from midnight screenings alone, on its opening night.

Never in her wildest dreams could author Stephanie Meyer have predicted the global explosion of her tale of Bella and Edward. As the takings continue to rise for the franchise, currently grossing just under $1billion worldwide, Twilight is enjoying mass hysteria experienced by only a small handful of elite film franchises. Karate Kid High Kicks Into USA Box Office

In the US, The Karate Kid kicked its way to the top on its opening weekend grossing an impressive $55.7m. Sony's exit polls indicated 53% of the audience was female, 56% under 25 and 45% parents with kids.

The remake starring Jaden Smith (Will and Jada Smith's son) and Jackie Chan boosted box office sales in the US. According to Entertainment Weekly, the underdog story made box office totals 11 percent higher than this time last year when blockbusters The Hangover and Up were in cinemas. Read more
