Saw 3D Cuts Through £3.6M

Halloween weekend attracted thousands to the cinema to watch the last in one of the most successful horror franchises in history - Saw. Saw 3D (or Saw VII for those that saw it in 2D) offered fans the chance to discover the answers to all the questions posed by previous Saw films, only this time in eye-popping 3D.

Saw 3D hit the top spot, grossing an impressive £3.6m in its opening weekend. This is the best opening result of any of the Saw films. Read more

Paranormal Activity 2 Tops Box Office

Suburban terror gripped the Box Office over the weekend as Paranormal Activity 2 went straight to No. 1. The sequel, about a young couple coping with a potentially evil spirit in their home, made £3.8 m in the UK in its debut weekend. This beats the first instalment of the low-budget horror which grossed £3.6m last year.

In the US, the film also dominated the weekend business, knocking Jackass 3D from the top spot and grossing a massive $41.5m. This is the highest grossing opening weekend of all time for a supernatural horror movie, beating The Grudge's $39.1m in 2004. Read more

Animated comedy Despicable Me helps BT deliver one million impacts

Universal Pictures' new 3D animated comedy film 'Despicable Me', voiced by Steve Carell, Russell Brand and Julie Andrews, has helped a new ad for BT Infinity deliver one million impacts in the film's first weekend, according to figures from DCM.

The ad features long-running BT characters Adam and Jane, acted by former 'My Family' star Kris Marshall and former 'Queer as Folk' actress Esther Hall, and extends their series of over 40 ads for the enduring campaign. Read more

Despicable Me No. 1 at UK Box Office

Animated comedy Despicable Me, voiced by Steve Carell, Russell Brand and Julie Andrews, took the top spot in the UK Box Office over the weekend taking £3.6m in ticket sales. The first 3D animated movie from Universal Pictures follows Gru, a bumbling villain with plans to steal the moon until three orphan girls enter his life.

The Social Network, which tells the story of how Facebook began, took second place with takings of £2.5m over 394 screens in the UK. Read more

Green&Black’s in Picturehouse cinema sponsorship

Starting this Friday, Green&Black's will be sponsoring 'Picturehouse Recommends' in Picturehouse cinemas across the country for six months. The campaign developed with Digital Cinema Media (DCM) and Rocket, the communications planning agency, will include on screen advertising and trailer idents as well as free sampling in the foyers and online activity.

The sponsorship of Picturehouse Recommends will focus on nine key films, including The Social Network, Another Year and George Clooney's latest project The American. Read more

Wall Street 2 Makes £1.8M

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, the sequel to Oliver Stone’s 1987 stock-exchange saga Wall Street, opened last Friday in the UK and grossed an impressive £1.8m in its opening weekend.

Starring original cast-members Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen, and new kids Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan, the film sees Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) released from jail after serving eight years for insider dealing and fraud. Faced with a new world, is he a new man? Read more

Ryan Reynolds film secures impacts for Kellogg's Cornflakes

Kellogg's Cornflakes secured 983,574 cinema impacts last weekend for its new ad against films including the new Ryan Reynolds film 'Buried', according to figures from Digital Cinema Media.

The spot, which was created by Leo Burnett, with media planning and buying handled by Carat, shows the sun rising on a waking city and families preparing to eat bowls of cornflakes. Read more
