Is Patience making a comeback? - Zoe Jones, Marketing Director Digital Cinema Media

Digital Cinema Media’s Marketing Director, Zoe Jones, asks ‘Is Patience Making a Comeback?’ as brands and entertainment companies alike start to deliver longer form content to an audience that is increasingly time poor.

We're constantly being bombarded with the same messages about our behaviour that we have no time to take in. We're apparently in need of immediate gratification, we're always time poor and we need to consume everything in 140 characters or less while multi-tasking across five different gadgets. This is probably an accurate description of our media lives some of the time, but is a deeper appreciation of an immersive experience enjoying a renaissance both in terms of creation and consumption? Up from the depths…

Digital Cinema Media’s (DCM) CEO, Simon Rees, looks ahead to the blockbuster season and some of the summer’s upcoming top comedy films.

I’m probably one of the only fans of the first Godzilla remake, released in 1998, which was a re-imagining of the Japanese sea monster film, first released in 1954. Some of us may also remember with nostalgia the popular Godzilla cartoon, but the new Godzilla film, on release in cinemas from 15 May, should reinstate Godzilla as the world’s most famous monster in the same year as it celebrates its 60th anniversary. UK Box Office 2 - 4 May 2014

The Weekend Round-up

For the third week in succession, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 topped the box office, although Bad Neighbours would have kept it from the top spot had it not opened on Saturday (see the Next Weekend section below). The Amazing Spider-Man 2 added £2m to its cume over the weekend and with a further £687k on Monday has now grossed £20.5m. That makes it the third highest grossing film of the year so far behind The LEGO Movie and The Wolf of Wall Street, but it’s looking like it may fall just short of the first Amazing Spider-Man’s £26m final total. Unearthing Cinematic Gems at Sundance London - Tom Linay, Head of Film, DCM

Tom Linay, Head of Film, DCM attended The Sundance Film Festival recently and shares his views on the upcoming art-house content, such as Kumiko: The Treasure Hunter, Obvious Child and The Voices, via The Huffington Post.

The Sundance Festival returned to the O2 this past weekend for the third edition of their London offshoot, bringing with them a selection of narrative and documentary features that were successful at their Park City, Utah home in January. A collection of high profile home-grown features rubbed shoulders with the cream of US independent cinema, resulting in a rich and diverse programme. The films on offer are often working with relatively low budgets compared to typical multiplex fare, and as a result, are often challenging and surprising. They're the kind of films that going in completely blind often provides the most satisfying experience as the surprises they contain then make maximum impact. It makes reviewing the films tricky, but hopefully the next 1,000 words or so will whet your appetite but still allow for a similar experience to the one I had. Read more

UK Box Office 25 - 27 April 2014

 The Weekend Round-up

For the second week in succession, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 topped the box office but it came under more pressure than perhaps was expected from The Other Woman. With £3.4m, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 fell 45% from the previous weekend (once previews are removed), which is a shade higher than the 42% the first Amazing Spider-Man fell on its second weekend in July 2012. To date the Marvel blockbuster has grossed £16.5m and with no real tent-pole competition until Godzilla on 15 May, it will be looking to cross the £25m mark. Read more
