Former Vice President Al Gore joined Empire Editor-in-Chief, Terri White, last Thursday morning for a session to kick off the fourth and final day of Advertising Week Europe.

The talk was based on the politician’s upcoming film, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, which premiered in late January at the Sundance Film Festival.

Set to be released later this year – 10 years after the two-time Academy Award–winning landmark documentary An Inconvenient Truth – the new film follows Gore as he continues his decades-long fight to build a more sustainable future for our planet, showing us both the escalations of the crisis and the real solutions we have close at hand.

DCM’s Head of Events and Activations, Anastasia Takis, was in attendance at the Fast Company Stage at Picturehouse Central and below tells us what she took away from the talk.

“I’ve never been able to attend an Empire session at Advertising Week Europe as they tend to clash with our DCM events, so I was grateful to have been able to make It along to this year’s conversation with Al Gore.

We were shown a sneak peak of the new documentary, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, which releases in cinemas in the UK on 25 August and looks set to inspire a whole new generation as to the perils of climate change, as well as the positive actions we can all make to turn the future around.

I’d say the one key point I took away from the session is that the world is in trouble and there isn’t any mission to Mars back up plan. WE CAN change this bleak fate, but to do so, we have to be less selfish and understand that the changes we make might seem minimal now, but will make a huge difference to the planet for future generations to come.”
