Two By Two: Overboard! made it two weeks in the top spot. After last week when it only made the top spot due to previews, this week it made it top outright, adding £191k, a drop of just 1% once previews are removed. It also had a strong midweek last week during half-term and is now up to £955k. It’s already the 10th biggest film post lockdown.

Who would have predicted at the turn of the year that Bette Midler’s 1993 fantasy comedy Hocus Pocus would be second in the box office over the Halloween weekend? Well we’re in unprecedented times and Hocus Pocus has come second at the box office, adding £186k, an increase of 247% from last weekend for a new total of £446k.

Liam Neeson thriller Honest Thief, which had the highest Friday to Sunday gross last weekend, was the third biggest film this weekend, adding £153k, a drop of 28% from last weekend, for a new total of £574k. It is now distributor Signature Entertainment’s biggest film ever.

The new lavish adaptation of The Secret Garden came in fourth with £142k, a drop of just 9% from last weekend. As this is a Sky Cinema title none of the major chains are playing it, which highlights its impressive performance. It is now up to £616k. Blumhouse’s The Craft: Legacy, a sequel to the popular 1996 horror, completed the top five, opening with £120k which includes £36k from previews.

Outside of the top five, Tenet came in sixth, adding £99k, a drop of 27% from last weekend for a new total of £17.4m. Aside from Hocus Pocus, John Carpenter’s classic chiller Halloween was the biggest re-release of the weekend, opening in eighth with £71k.

The top 15 totalled £1.5m, which is up 5% from last weekend and Comscore are reporting that the number of sites open in the UK & Ireland this weekend went up to 469 (from 461).
