Box Office Round-up
The re-release of the biggest Marvel film of all-time pulled off a terrific weekend, opening with £4.1m, which is the highest opening weekend for a re-release. Avengers: Endgame Encore is only in cinemas for two weeks but it looks like becoming the biggest re-release since the re-release of Titanic in 2012. It bodes very well for Avengers: Doomsday, which hits cinemas on 16 December.
Resident Evil fell to second, adding £2.2m, which is down 47% from last weekend. That takes its total after 10 days in cinemas to £8.6m and it’s now the biggest Resident Evil film of all-time. The last Resident Evil film in cinemas was 2021’s Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City which finished its run with £585k, and the best performing Resident Evil film until this new one, was 2010’s Resident Evil: Afterlife, which finished its run with £4.8m.
Heart Of The Beast opened in third with £2.1m, which includes £524k from previews after opening on Wednesday. Director, David Ayer, has had two films in cinemas in the past two years and both starred Jason Statham, 2024’s The Beekeeper (£3.8m) and 2025’s A Working Man (£1.9m). It looks like Heart Of The Beast will comfortably surpass them both.
Sense & Sensibility opened in fourth with £1.5m, which includes £42k from previews. It has been a terrific year for literary adaptations aimed at women, starting with The Housemaid and Hamnet, and then Wuthering Heights, which all grossed over £19m in 2026, and while Sense & Sensibility isn’t going to hit the same heights as those three, it’s still a solid start.
Practical Magic 2 rounded out the top five, adding £773k, which is down 49% from last weekend. That takes its total after three weekends in cinemas to £7m and the first Practical Magic finished its run in 1999 with £3.4m, so this sequel has more than doubled that total.
Outside of the top five, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now less than £485k away from £100m, after adding £312k over the weekend.
Next Weekend
Verity stars Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired to ghostwrite for Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway). After she uncovers what appears to be Verity's autobiographical notes, she wrestles with the confessions about Verity's husband (Josh Hartnett), and finds it hard to separate fiction from reality.
Digger stars Tom Cruise as the most powerful man in the world, who embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity's saviour before the disaster he's unleashed destroys everything. Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Jesse Plemons, and John Goodman co-star.
The Buzz
Day Drinker is a thriller starring Johnny Depp as an enigmatic stranger who forms an unlikely bond with a grieving bartender who lost her lover, their lives intertwining in unexpected ways. The first trailer suggests a dark supernatural-tinged thriller from director, Marc Webb ((500) Days Of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man). The cast includes Penelope Cruz and Madelyn Cline and it’s one of the best films for ABC1 men in Q1 when it hits cinemas on 26 March.
Across The Pond
Avengers: Endgame Encore opened in the top spot with $26m. Resident Evil fell to second, adding $23.3m, which takes its total to an impressive $103.5m. Heart Of The Beast opened in third with $20m, while Primetime opened in fourth with $19.2m. Forgotten Island rounded out the top five, opening with a slightly disappointing $12.8m.
