The Weekend Round-up

For the first time since August Tenet failed to top the UK box office. Animated sequel, Two By Two: Overboard! opened in the top spot with £329k, which includes £138k from previews. The first Two By Two opened in 2015 with £568k and went on to gross £3.3m. While that final total may be too much of a stretch, Two By Two: Overboard! will be looking to have a strong half term week.

Liam Neeson thriller Honest Thief opened in second with £253k, which includes £44k from previews, but posted the best Friday to Sunday total of £210k. This is the biggest opening weekend for distributor, Signature Entertainment and Honest Thief has a good chance of becoming their biggest film, a title which is currently held by Dreambuilders released back in July and has grossed £481k to date.

The new lavish adaptation of The Secret Garden came in third with £154k. Starring Colin Firth and Julie Walters this is also available on Sky Cinema, which has hit its box office potential. Fourth place this week was taken by Tenet, which fell 29% to £135k. That takes its total to £17.1m. Another new entry, Pixie, completed the top five. This is Ireland-set comedy drama starring Olivia Cooke and Alec Baldwin opened with £116k.

Outside of the top five, Hocus Pocus is still the best performing re-release on offer, adding £54k which was enough for eighth and now has a re-released total of £156k.  There was another new entry in ninth as romantic drama All My Life couldn’t emulate the success of After We Collided, opening with £50k.

The top 15 totalled £1.5m, which is up 44% from last weekend. Comscore are reporting that the number of sites open in the UK & Ireland this weekend went down to 461 (from 481).
