Box Office: Other Mommy Makes Millions

Other Mommy takes the top spot with £1.9m in its opening weekend.

Other Mommy takes the top spot with £1.9m in its opening weekend. Horror has seen a significant shift in the last couple of years, with 50% of the top 10 horrors of all time releasing since 2025 including the likes of Obsession, Backrooms and Nosferatu. Whilst Other Mommy might not reach the top 10 of all time, it’s interesting to see the impact the genre has had on its cultural relevancy and its positive impact on ticket sales. These opening weekend figures are similar to Smile (2022) which opened with £1.8m, and we’re likely to see it play out similarly.

Verity takes the second spot in its second week, adding another £1.9m to bring its total to £7.3m and surpass Colleen Hoover’s last film adaptation, Reminders of Him at £4.5m. Verity looks likely to reach a similar figure to her other successful adaptation It Ends With Us which ended on £21.1m, securing the top 20 in 2024.

Heart Of The Beast jumps up in its third week, adding £815k, which is down just 29% from last weekend and takes its total to £5.4m.

Resident Evil takes the fourth spot, adding £780k, which is down 42% from last weekend to reach a £12.7m total and become the biggest Resident Evil film of all time. Resident Evil has now surpassed Zach Cregger’s last release Weapons which finished on £11.8m and A Quiet Place (2018), putting it comfortably on track to reach the top 10 horrors of all time.

Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom jumps back up this weekend, rounding out the top five with 204k, bringing its total to £3.8m in its fourth week.

Outside of the top five, Sense and Sensibility adds another £190k to reach £5m, The Social Reckoning opened with £650k and Digger reached £1.1m in its second week.

The Buzz

From the mind behind The Maze Runner film franchise, comes a new film based on one of Nintendo’s best-selling video game franchises of all time. The Legend of Zelda has sold more than 156 million copies since its inception in 1986, and the buzz around the franchise shows no signs of slowing, with its latest instalment selling over 4m copies worldwide. Video game adaptations have become increasingly successful at the UK box office — A Minecraft Movie was the biggest film of 2025. A growing range of brands are tapping into the cultural power of cinematic video game adaptations in creative and contextually relevant ways and with The Legend of Zelda forecasted to strongly index towards a young male audience, the film is ideal for entertainment and technology brands looking to harness the cultural impact of cinema.
