Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame is the first blockbuster of the 2019 film slate and has been truly living up to that title.

Pre-sale tickets for the hotly anticipated film went on sale on Tuesday morning and brought ticket selling websites to their knees across the globe, with long wait-times, error codes and crashes reported on several ticket sites in the UK, US and Canada.

Fandango, the US ticket buying service, saw its first dale US sales record, previously held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Erik Davis, Fandango Managing Editor, said: "We’ve never seen anything like this – it’s truly a groundbreaking accomplishment – as fans simply cannot wait to see how this epic saga comes to a close."

Competitor Atom reported that it had sold three times as many tickets in the first hour of pre-sales as it did for Avengers: Infinity War over the same timeframe last year, as well as beating first-hour sales for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Within eight hours of going on sale, Avengers: Endgame had doubled the first week sales for Avengers: Infinity War in Regal Cinemas. “With our advance ticket record skyrocketing, we are preparing some exciting events and special offers for our Marvel movie fans,” said Ken Thewes, Regal’s chief marketing officer. “We will continue to monitor the demand and ensure Regal moviegoers can enjoy plenty of opportunities to see this highly anticipated movie.”
