The nominations for the 98th Oscars were announced on Thursday 22 January. Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple) and Lewis Pullman (Thunderbolts*) revealed the nominations for the prestigious film awards via a live broadcast.
The frontrunner for this year’s Academy Awards is Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. The film received 16 nominations, breaking the record for the most nominations in a single year, previously held by All About Eve, La La Land and Titanic at 14.
Sinners’ notable nominations include Best Picture, Directing for Ryan Coogler, Actor in a Leading Role for Michael B. Jordan, Actress in a Supporting Role for Wunmi Mosaku, and Actor in a Supporting Role for Delroy Lindo.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another received an impressive 13 nominations. Anderson was nominated for Directing and Adapted Screenplay, Leonardo DiCaprio for Actor in a Leading Role, Teyana Taylor for Actress in a Supporting Role, and Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn for Actor in a Supporting Role.
Marty Supreme received nine nominations including Best Picture, Directing for Josh Safdie, and Actor in a Leading Role for Timothée Chalamet.
Sentimental Value was also nominated for nine awards, including Best Picture, International Feature Film, Directing for Joachim Trier and Actress in a Leading Role for Renate Reinsve.
The full list of nominees for the Academy Award for Best Picture is as follows: Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sinners and Train Dreams.
It’s going to be a close call when the winners are announced on Sunday 15 March at The Dolby Theatre in LA.
