Presented by former rising star nominees Naomi Ackie (I Wanna Dance With Somebody) and Kingsley Ben-Adir (Bob Marley: One Love), the nominees for the EE BAFTA Film Awards 2024 were revealed live this afternoon (Thursday 18 January 2024).

The nominees for 12 categories were revealed in the live announcement, with the remining categories published on the BAFTA website shortly after.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer received the most BAFTA nominations, with 13 in total, including Best Film, Director and Adapted Screenplay. Cillian Murphy was nominated for Leading Actor, Robert Downey Jr. was nominated for Supporting Actor, and Emily Blunt was nominated for Supporting Actress.

Yorgos Lanthimos’ Venice Golden Lion-winner Poor Things received 11 nominations, after a strong opening weekend at the UK box office. The film’s nominations included Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Adapted Screenplay and Leading Actress for Emma Stone.

Also faring well were Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon and Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest, with nine nominations each. These included Best Film for Killers of the Flower Moon, and Outstanding British Film for The Zone of Interest.

The highest-grossing film of 2023, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, received five nominations including Original Screenplay, Leading Actress for Margot Robbie and Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling. Greta Gerwig surprisingly did not receive a nomination for Director.

The five Best Film nominees this year are all cinema releases, further proving the value of the theatrical release.
