The winners of the 92nd Academy Awards were announced last night, with Parasite emerging as victorious with a clean sweep of Best Picture, Best Director, Best Foreign Film and Best Original Screenplay. This is an historic moment in Oscars history as it is the first time a film not in the English language has won Best Picture. “I feel like I’ll wake up to find it’s all a dream. It all feels very surreal,’ director Bong Joon-Ho said of the evening.

Jaoquin Phoenix capped off his triumphant awards season by finally claiming the Oscar that had so far eluded him, taking home Best Actor for his role as the Joker. He now becomes the second actor to win an Oscar for their role as the character. Phoenix ended his politically-charged acceptance speech by quoting a lyric by his late brother River Phoenix: ‘Run to the rescue and love and peace will follow’.

Renee Zellweger took home her second Oscar for her portrayal of Judy Garland in Judy, with Laura Dern winning Best Supporting Actress. Dern now surpasses her parents’ Oscars achievements, who were nominated five times for Academy Awards between them but always unsuccessful.

Brad Pitt won his first Oscar for Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, using his acceptance speech to attack the impeachment process of Donald Trump. Best Adapted Screenplay was awarded to Taika Waittiti for Jojo Rabbit.

Disney capped off their year of box office dominance by being award Best Animated Feature for Toy Story 4. This is the second film in the franchise to have won this award, after Toy Story 3.

1917 did not fully replicate its BAFTAs success on the night, but did take home Best Cinematography, Best Sound Mixing and Best Visual Effects. Le Mans ’66 (Ford v Ferrari) took home both Best Sound Editing and Best Film Editing.

Elton John and Bernie Taupin won Best Original Song for Rocketman’s (I’m Gonna) Love Me Again, which is their first Academy Award as a pair and Elton’s second Oscar overall.
