The annual Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity came to close on Saturday night with the final awards ceremony of the week taking place at the Palais des Festivals.

The event saw the winners of the Film and Film Craft categories announced along with this year’s Titanium and Integrated prizes and a host of other awards to round off the Festival for another year.

Film Lions

Adam&eveDDB’s amusing ad, Shoplifters, for Harvey Nichols took the Grand Prix in Film in 2016. The commercial merges animation with live-action to promote the retailer’s app rewards scheme by presenting real-life CCTV footage and covering up the shoplifters’ faces with that of amusing cartoon characters.

The 90-second piece is directed by duo, Layzell Bros, via production company Blink and was praised for its compatibility and effectiveness on the big screen as well as other media channels by the jury.

Film Craft

Under Armour was awarded the Grand Prix in this year’s Film Craft category for its Phelps film following professional swimmer, Michael Phelps, and his training regime and journey back to the top through creative agency, Droga5.

The 90-second ad was launched as the third of a three-part spot campaign earlier this year which saw shorter spots featuring Manchester United footballer, Memphis Depay, and the US Gymnastics Women’s National Team also launch to continue the brand’s Rule Yourself stance hinged on the line ‘it’s what you do in the dark that puts you in the light’.
