Greek mythical epic Clash Of The Titans resolutely held its ground at the top of the box office rankings at the weekend. Despite the sunshine, the movie took nearly £2.5m, beating How to Train Your Dragon at £1.4m. Clash Of The Titans is also on track to become Australian actor Sam Worthington’s second-highest grossing film behind Avatar.

Following a solid weekend performance, family favourite How To Train Your Dragon has now grossed just under £10m. Kick-Ass, meanwhile, also held its position; the comic-book movie, which has been well received by critics, has racked up takings of 7m.

Whip It!, Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut starring Ellen Page, also enjoyed an encouraging opening, taking £353k.
