April’s Industry Impacts hit 11.2m

April’s industry impacts totalled 11.2m, a strong result to date and is the fourth best Jan-Apr result of all time. Year to date 2011′s cinema impacts now stand at 54.7m.

With the kids not off until a little later this year, combined with the Royal Wedding Bank Holiday and the hot weather, the industry faced some unusual challenges this April resulting in the levels of cinemagoing to drop below the norm for this time of year. That being said, the April films delivered some good results.

Gnomeo Gnomeo where art though?

Gnomeo & Juliet has reclaimed first place at the UK box office.

The 3D animation, which re-tells William Shakespeare’s classic tale with a cast of garden gnomes, takes in £2.5m to lead the chart ahead of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s Paul.

New release I Am Number Four debuts at number three, while the half-term school holidays helped boost animated films Yogi Bear and Tangled up to fourth and fifth place respectively.

Newcomer The Fighter packs a punch

The Fighter

Going to the cinema is still looking to be an extremely popular pastime this February as last weekend’s takings for the top 15 titles beat the same weekend last year by 14%. Disney’s Tangled remains at the top spot with its Box Office takings to date at £11.3m, surpassing The Princess & The Frog’s £11.1m final gross.

Following in second place is The King’s Speech, holding strong once again and fast approaching Slumdog Millionaire’s £31.7m. David O. Russell’s The Fighter packed a punch with a debut gross of £2.1m including previews. A personal best for the director.
