UK Box Office 7 – 9 December 2012

Like a festive Avengers, Rise Of The Guardians ascended to the top of the box office this weekend easing 19% to £1.6m and a cume of £4.1m, becoming a family favourite. Last December, Puss In Boots opened with £2m, almost exactly the same as Rise Of The Guardians last weekend, and went on to gross £1.3m on its second weekend on its way to a final total of £15.6m. It’s not unreasonable to assume a similar level of performance for ROTG.

Skyfall dropped back to second spot with a further £1.4m, taking its tally to a record breaking £96.3m, smashing the previous record set by Avatar in 2009. It has not just been a success in the UK, it has grossed over $918m worldwide and may well break the $1bn barrier, which is an amazing achievement in itself but even more impressive when you consider that the last and previously highest grossing Bond film, Quantum Of Solace achieved $586m worldwide.
