Digital Cinema Media (DCM) sent a traditional British treat in the form of fish and chip vans to MGOMD, M2M, Carat, OMD and PHD last week to raise awareness for their Best of British film packages in cinema.

The activity was well received by all the agencies, receiving twitter and Facebook coverage, with Anna Fitzgerald, Cinema Co-ordinator at PHD, commenting on the day "Thanks DCM for the lunchtime treat. Awards season is in full bloom as the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards were handed out last weekend. The big winner of the evening was The Help, which picked up three awards.

Viola Davis,The Help, won best actress beating The Iron Lady Meryl Streep to the gong. While Best Actor favourite George Clooney, The Descendants, was piped to the post by The Artist’s Jean Dujardin.

Things are hotting up between this year’s contenders as each award ceremony throws a different film into the spot light. With The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, The Help, Moneyball, War Horse and The Tree of Life all up for best picture the Oscar race is getting even more interesting.

The upcoming film Shame signals Michael Fassbender’s arrival as one of the world’s greatest actors, joining the likes of Daniel Day-Lewis and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Fassbender can next be seen appearing in Steven Soderbergh’s excellent spy thriller Haywire (out next week) and Ridley Scott’s feverishly anticipated Alien ‘prequel’ Prometheus in June. Mulligan will next be seen alongside Leonardo Di Caprio and Tobey Maguire in Baz Luhrmann’s lavish Great Gatsby adaptation in late 2012 and then in the Coen brothers’ next project Inside Llewyn Davis. Expect all these films to further consolidate both Fassbender and Mulligan’s status as two of the hottest acting talents around.

Meryl Streep was among the nominees when the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations were announced last week.

Streep was nominated for her role in The Iron Lady, a biopic about British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

DCM hit the red carpet with Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg on Tuesday for the London premiere of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Tom Cruise, who turns 50 next year, plays secret agent Ethan Hunt in the fourth film in the franchise which he also produces. Speaking on the red carpet at London’s IMAX cinema, Cruise claimed he had no intention of slowing down. “I’m just going to keep going, as long as I can do it. I love making action movies,” he said.

The actor returns as Impossible Mission Force agent Ethan Hunt. Disavowed and blamed for the terrorist bombings of the Kremlin, Hunt and his agency face new challenges and must find a way to clear their agency’s name without resources or backup. Cruise pulls off several impressive stunts in the film, including hanging from the tallest building in the world – Dubai’s 2,716ft Burj Khalifa.

He described how much he enjoyed making the fourth Mission: Impossible; “It’s fun, Paula and everyone, us all being together, it is really fun all being together. You work so hard when you are making the movie, you talk about what it is going to be like when it comes out and the fun we’re going to have and it really is a lot of fun. That is what it is about. We’re here and we can’t wait for people to see it”.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is released in the UK on Boxing Day and IMAX from the 21st December.

Billed as master director Martin Scorsese’s first family film, Hugo is a hugely affectionate love-letter to film and cinema history.
Hugo is the story of 11 year-old orphan, Hugo Cabret (Asa Butterfield), who lives in a 1930s Paris train station, secretly maintaining the stations clocks and evading the clutches of the pompous station inspector (Sacha Baron Cohen). Before his death, Hugo’s father (Jude Law) was repairing a mysterious mechanical automaton and Hugo takes on the task of finishing the job.

Of course, this leads Hugo into situations he could never have expected and as he forges a friendship with the wide-eyed Isabelle (Chloe Grace Moretz), he begins to learn about her gloomy Godfather, Papa Georges (Ben Kingsley). Where this adventure takes Hugo will be a treat to anyone with a passing interest in film history and there’s enough wonder along the way to enthral any other viewers willing to take the journey.

The film features strong performances throughout but particular praise goes to Ben Kingsley who is a study in wounded pride as Papa Georges. It’s also worth noting that the film features the best 3D visuals yet seen on film that perfectly complement and enhance the story.

Hugo hits cinemas nationwide 2 December 2011.
